SEN | Special Educational Needs (Learning Support)
Most people find learning hard at times but:
A pupil who has a ‘special educational needs’ is one who finds that learning is much more difficult that most children of his or her age.
There can be many reasons why some children find that learning is unusually hard. Sometimes this is because of a physical disability. Sometimes it is because of a learning difficulty or an emotional problem, and this applies to the majority of pupils who have SEN at Claremont. In some cases the need may last through life e.g. a physical disability. In other cases the need may be temporary e.g. during recovery from injury or stress.
There are some Special Schools for pupils with severe difficulties, but many pupils with special needs are in ordinary schools and, at any time, about one in six pupils, in schools like Claremont, may have some form of SEN.
