On 27th and 28th June 2024, Claremont High School opened its doors to over three hundred Year 6 students, offering them a glimpse into what could be one of the most pivotal stages of their educational journey. These two days were filled with excitement, anticipation and a whirlwind of new experiences as the young students stepped into their future school for the first time.

Claremont provided the visiting Year 6 students with a chance to immerse themselves in high school life. The schedule included a variety of subjects, allowing the students to experience lessons in science, mathematics, history and physical education, among others. Each session was designed to be interactive and engaging, offering a hands-on learning experience that highlighted the dynamic teaching methods at Claremont.

In the science classes, students conducted exciting experiments, learning about chemical reactions and physics principles in a way that ignited their curiosity. The mathematics sessions were equally engaging, with teachers introducing fun and challenging puzzles that encouraged critical thinking. History lessons took students on a journey through time, making the past come alive through interactive storytelling. Physical education classes, filled with energetic activities, highlighted the importance of fitness and teamwork.

The school grounds buzzed with groups of enthusiastic students eager to explore their new environment. Many students were both excited and nervous, wondering how they would fit into this new setting. For some, it was the first taste of independence and the beginning of their journey into adolescence.

The students were guided through their days by Claremont's friendly and helpful staff and student prefects.

Mya Abigail Celestine, aged 10, from Byron Court Primary School said: ‘I like everything here at Claremont because it’s fresh and diverse. I’m looking forward to the trips and science experiments. I can’t wait to learn about many new things and make new friends in this school.’

Syan Varsani, aged 11, from Uxendon Manor Primary said: ‘What I most enjoyed about my Taster Day at Claremont High School was the lesson on the astro-turf, because I was able to have fun with my form class. I played football and scored a goal!’

For now, the Year 6 students leave with a better understanding of what high school life entails and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead.
