Five days we’ll never forget

Ms Bhanderi reports on a true taste of the Big Apple for Claremont students
In February 2026, thirty-one Year 12 pupils enjoyed an extraordinary five‑day trip to New York City, returning with lifelong memories, closer friendships and a renewed enthusiasm for learning after experiencing the very best of the Big Apple. With a packed itinerary that included iconic landmarks, inspiring museums, thrilling sports events and world‑class dining, students threw themselves into every moment of their visit.
The group explored major attractions, including: the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, 9/11 Memorial & Museum, Central Park, Wollman Ice Rink, the Edge at Hudson Yards, Brooklyn Bridge, a Brooklyn Nets versus Chicago Bulls NBA game, and even enjoyed a performance‑filled meal at Ellen’s Stardust Diner.
Throughout the trip, students were consistently praised for their maturity, teamwork and exemplary behaviour. Teachers accompanying them were hugely impressed by the way every pupil represented the school.
‘The cabin crew on the flight complimented the students on their politeness and conduct, which was a moment of real pride for our school,’ says Ms Mepani.
The Year 12s were exceptional from start to finish. They supported one another and embraced every challenge, especially the minus 25-degree temperatures!
As an added reward for their positive attitude and engagement, students were treated to several surprises, including the famous Joe's Pizza, viral Crumbl Cookies, extra spending money and plenty of shopping time across famous locations, such as Times Square and 5th Avenue.
The pupils themselves have described the visit as ‘the best trip we’ve ever been on’ and ‘five days we’ll never forget’.
‘Skating in Central Park and seeing the skyline at the Edge were unbelievable,’ says Aryan Kalsi. ‘We were all speechless!’
‘I’ve never learnt so much in such a fun way,’ adds N’Adjoa Ghapson. ‘The Wall Street tour and 9/11 Museum really opened my eyes to things we’d studied in class.’
Since returning, the excitement has been palpable. Students have been enthusiastically sharing photos, stories and highlights with their peers, families and teachers, which is a clear sign of the impact this experience has had. This unforgettable adventure provided not only cultural enrichment, but also meaningful educational moments, independence and a sense of global awareness. It’s safe to say that the 2026 New York trip will be remembered fondly for many years to come!
